Local Biodiversity Featured at Agrofest 2026

This year marks the first year that the Biodiversity Conservation and Management Section hosted a stall at Agrofest, held annually at Queen’s Park. The Section prepared a suite of informational resources, live displays and games for a weekend of fun and learning. Visitors learned about the island’s gullies, endemic plant and animal species such as the godhorse (Phanocles barbadosense) and the Critically Endangered Barbados leaf-toed gecko (Phyllodactylus pulcher), and the Section’s work on conservation projects and international agreements such as the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

Visitors were very engaged with the live displays, particularly the live animal display as they were challenged to find all of the animals hiding in terrarium. The stall also featured Logi the Leaf-toed Gecko, the main character in an upcoming book of the same name which teaches children about the gecko and the importance of our environment. Kids loved the Corn Hole and Species Matching games and the lucky dip prizes.
