On Friday 8th May 2026, at the Shirley Chisholm Primary School, we proudly launched “Logi the Leaf-toed Gecko”, a children’s storybook inspired by Barbados’ National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan.
Written by Allister Straker, the story follows Logi, a Barbados leaf-toed gecko found nowhere else in the world, and teaches children the importance of protecting our environment and wildlife.
The book was officially launched by Minister for Environment, the Hon. Santia Bradshaw. We were also honoured to be joined by the Hon. Adrian Forde (Minister of People Empowerment and Gender Affairs & former Minister for Environment) and the Hon. Chad Blackman (Minister of Education Transformation), who both encouraged students to value and protect the natural world around them.
We are also excited about future plans to bring Logi’s story to life through animation, allowing even more children to learn about biodiversity in a fun and engaging way.
To every child receiving this book, remember that caring for our environment starts with you.
