Celebrating International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) 2023 under the theme ‘Building Back Biodiversity‘

The Ministry of Environment and National Beautification, Green and Blue Economy and artists in Barbados celebrate International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) 2023. 

We are not separate from nature, we are part of it. Nature is our home, our source, our inspiration. As we reflect on a decade of action for biodiversity conservation, we chart a way forward under the Decade for Ecosystem Restoration.

Nature gives us everything we need and more, from the food we eat to the beauty we admire. But nature is also fragile and threatened by our actions.

 We have caused biodiversity loss, climate change, pollution, and degradation. We have harmed nature, and in doing so, we have harmed ourselves. But we can also heal nature, and in doing so, we can heal ourselves.

Building back biodiversity means choosing a different path, a path of hope and action. It means restoring what we have damaged, protecting what we have left, and creating what we need.

It means living in harmony with nature, not against it. It means celebrating nature, not exploiting it. It means loving nature, not fearing it.

Nature is our treasure, our legacy, our lifeline. Nature blesses us with abundance and beauty, from the crops we harvest to the stars we gaze at.

It means aligning with nature, not opposing it. It means honoring nature, not abusing it. It means loving nature, not neglecting it.

Building back biodiversity means embracing a new vision, a vision of hope and action. It means healing what we have hurt, saving what we have left, and growing what we need. 

By building back biodiversity, we can ensure a healthier, more resilient, and more harmonious relationship between humans and nature.
