Virtual Art Exhibition 2025: Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development

The Ministry of Environment and National Beautification, Green and Blue Economy is pleased to once again be working along with local artists to highlight biodiversity and the environment during our National Environment Month. Since 2021, we have been hosting our annual Art Exhibition which this year will be run from May 22 – June 28, 2025, right here on our website and social media pages. Also, for the first time, we are hosting an in-person exhibition at the Gallery of Caribbean Art in Speightstown, St. Peter alongside the virtual one. All are encouraged to visit.

Of note, 22 May is celebrated yearly worldwide as International Day for Biodiversity (IDB) and this year’s theme is ‘Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development’. It is championed by the United Nations Convention for Biological Diversity (UNCBD) of which Barbados is a Party, since 1994. Biodiversity is the foundation of all life on Earth and it is fundamental to human well-being, a healthy planet, and economic prosperity for all people. This year’s IDB is focused on the linkages between the targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It also aims to advocate for accelerated action since 2030 is the deadline the world agreed for the implementation of both the SDGs and the KMGBF targets. #BiodiversityDay #GlobalGoals #KMGBF

This year’s Exhibition will always features 30 select pieces from Barbados-based visual artists, showcasing a variety of styles and media. These pieces emphasise the need to work together in harmony with nature, not against it, to achieve sustainable development. This exhibition was curated by the talented Ms. Oneka Small.

Stay tuned to Biodiversity Barbados to view the talent of some of our local artists. See the virtual exhibit here!
